"Grand Round" - Endocrine System
This goal of this project was to help us learn the different diseases caused by the endocrine system. Each group was covertly assigned a disease to research and then act out the symptoms for as a member from each of the 6 other groups would pose as a doctor trying to understand their patient's symptoms.
We repeated this process 7 times, once as a patient and the other 6 times researching another group's disease and trying to come up with a diagnosis.

Group 1 - This was my group and we were assigned Type 1 Diabetes. Some of the symptoms of this disease are: low blood sugar, family history, pancreas unable to produce insulin or only produces very low levels of insulin, intense hunger or thirst, unusually long periods of time without any appetite, blurred vision, and a few more.
Group 2 - Diagnosis: Type 2 Diabetes.
The symptoms my patient (56 years old and 275 pounds) displayed were tingling in his fingers, frequent urination, wounds that took abnormally long to heal, high blood pressure, obesity, constant thirst.

Group 3 - Diagnosis: Cushing Syndrome.
My patient displayed the following symptoms: purple stress marks, easy bruising, fatigue, a round face, thinning legs, and the disease was caused by an overabundance of cortisol.

Group 4 - Diagnosis: Grave's Disease (Grave's Eye Disease).
When examining my patient and inquiring about their health I was able to notice these symptoms: bulgy eyes, swollen thyroid, fatigue, anxiety and irritability, vision problems, dry eyes. My patient explained that all of the women in her family shared these symptoms.

Group 5 - Diagnosis: Hypoparathyroidism.
My patient was able to tell me these following symptoms of his condition: muscle spasms, low calcium levels, seizures. He told me that other doctors had told him his disease had no cure and that it ran in his family.

Group 6 - Diagnosis: Acromegaly.
My 40 year old patient's hands and feet had been growing a lot. She had impaired vision and had developed a barrel chest. She told me that she sweated more that she used to and that her body odor was awful. She had enlarged facial features and a deepened voice.

Group 7 - Diagnosis: Turner Syndrome.
My patient knew a lot about her disease, but was unsure of her exact diagnosis. She told me that her disease only occurs in females and some of her symptoms were vision disorder, delayed puberty, hearing loss, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, puffy hands and feet (from birth), infertility, cannot menstruate, widely spaced nipples, and shortness.

Our reasoning: When we were deducting what diseases each patient had we had to do a lot of research about diseases related to the endocrine system in some way. We took into account all of the symptoms of each patient and then found matches with diseases we located during our research.
